Primary Foundations

Our summer foundations program gives both returning and new students entering grades 1 to 4 a chance to get into the swing of things before school starts. Students can experience the program in half-day sessions or pair two session to build a full day.
  • Intro to Humanities

    Week 1 (July 8-July 12)
    Incoming Fall Grade 1-4

    Time: Gr. 1-2 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. or Gr. 3-4 12:30 to 3:00 p.m.
    Cost: $375 per week
    Space: 8 per session

    Students will get a jump start on the BASIS Independent Brooklyn humanities curriculum while learning what it means to be a BASIS student. Students will be challenged while having fun participating in author studies, creating personal cartoons, researching and designing a nonfiction piece, and studying different artists and their journey. Through discussion, demonstration, and hands-on practice, students will improve their writing and reading comprehension skills.

  • Dramatic Arts & Storytelling

    Week 1 (July 8-July 12)
    Incoming Fall Grade 1-4

    Time: Gr. 3-4 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. or Gr. 1-2 12:30 to 3:00 p.m.
    Cost: $375 per week
    Space: 8 per session

    Students will be challenged to create and perform producing examples of the stories, scenes, and solo works. Students will practice applying theater terminology during the class. This theater course practices the belief that students must “do” in order achieve their greatest success. Each class seeks to have students actively participating in storytelling, movement, and positive communication with peers, in order to better understand the power of the human condition.

Math Summer Programs

These critical programs will give students entering grades 5+ the opportunity to learn and/or review essential topics to help set them up for success in math. Incoming students, as well as current students, desiring review will benefit from the focused approach and further practice through the program. Students can enroll for one week or multiple weeks, with an optional placement exam being given August 16th. Multi-session discount: Those registering for Math Enrichment programs will get a 15%-off the 3rd week or more when registering for three or more week sessions of any Math Enrichment program.
  • Pre-Algebra

    Weeks 1–6
    Incoming Fall Grade 5+

    Offered all six weeks in the a.m. session
    Time: 9:00 to 11:30 a.m.
    Cost: $375 per week

    Intended for those going into Math 8/7, Algebra 1/2, or Algebra I. Topics include but are not limited to basic operations, order of operations, word problems, basic geometry, etc. This course is not a substitute for Algebra 1, however, students in grades 5 & 6 may score enough on their math placement test in order to bypass Math 8/7 and Math Algebra 1/2 and proceed directly to Algebra 1 in the coming fall.

  • Algebra 1

    Weeks 1–6
    Incoming fall grade 5+

    Offered all six weeks in the p.m. session
    Time: 12:30 to 3:00 p.m.
    Cost: $375 per week

    Intended for those going into Algebra 2 in the fall. Topics include but are not limited to basic operations, order of operations, word problems, basic geometry, etc.

  • Algebra 2

    Weeks 1–6
    Incoming fall grade 5+

    Offered all six weeks in the a.m. session
    Advisor and Instructor: Ms. Das
    Time: 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
    Cost: $375 per week

    This program is intended to prepare students for Pre-Calculus material by going through the Saxon Algebra 2 curriculum. Students will have the option of taking a math placement exam on the final day of the program. Each week will cover 20 lessons.

  • Pre-Calculus

    Weeks 1–6
    Incoming fall grade 5+

    Offered all six weeks in the p.m. session
    Advisor and Instructor: Ms. Das
    Time: 12:30 to 3:00 p.m.
    Cost: $375 per week

    This program is intended to prepare students for Calculus material by going through the Saxon Advanced Mathematics curriculum. Students will have the option of taking a math placement exam on the final day of the program. Each week will cover 20 lessons, with the exception of the final week, during which, students will begin Calculus material.

Science Summer Programs

New to BASIS Independent Brooklyn? Want a jumpstart on one of the most interesting subjects? Just curious about physics? Join us for this week-long academic course introducing the concepts and problem-solving strategies for introductory physics.
  • Physics Introduction

    Week 1 (July 8-July 12)
    Incoming fall grade 6+

    This course is perfect for students entering BASIS Independent Brooklyn in grades 7 or 8 who would like to catch up on some of the physics content covered during the BASIS Independent Schools’ curriculum for grade 6. This week-long academic course introducing the concepts and problem-solving strategies for introductory physics.

Writing Summer Program

Through discussion, demonstration, and hands-on practice, students will improve their writing, grammar, and reading comprehension skills.
  • The Writer's Lab

    Week 3 (July 22-26)
    Incoming fall grade 5+

    Students will solidify their understanding of challenging grammar topics through meaningful examples and instruction that targets common errors. Students will have opportunities to practice important reading comprehension skills like inference and analysis through in-class readings and discussions. Engaging writing prompts will give students ample practice with essential skills and improve their confidence as scholarly writers. This workshop will effectively prepare students for middle and high school.

Music Summer Program

Ever wanted to learn an instrument? Already play an instrument and want to improve your skills? Summer 2019 offers both private music instruction as well as music camp led by Mr. Ingels.
  • BASIS Independent Music Studio - Private Music Lessons

    Week 5 & 6 (August 5-9, August 12-16)
    Incoming fall grade 6+*

    Time: Contact Mr. Ingels directly to book lessons (lessons can be arranged prior to morning or after afternoon enrichment selections)

    Cost: $100/30 minute session

    30-minute private music instruction with Mr. Ingels. Contact Mr. Ingels to schedule and confirm lessons. Once confirmed a section will be created in ACTIVE and a registration link sent to you.

    *Students in grade 5 upon approval of the instructor.

  • BASIS Independent Music Studio - Music Camp

    Week 6 (August 12-16)
    Incoming fall grade 6+*

    Join your fellow musicians for a fun week of playing, composing, and arranging your favorite music! This course will teach students how to play their chosen instrument, basic note reading, and playing by ear. Open to all instruments.

    *Students in grade 5 upon approval of the instructor.
