Math Summer Programs

  • Pre-Algebra/Algebra I Readiness

    Weeks 1–6
    Incoming Fall Grade 5+

    Intended for those going into Math 8/7, Algebra 1/2, or Algebra I. Topics include but are not limited to basic operations, order of operations, word problems, basic geometry, etc. This course is not a substitute for Algebra 1, however, students in grades 5 & 6 may score enough on their math placement test in order to bypass Math 8/7 and Math Algebra 1/2 and proceed directly to Algebra 1 in the coming fall.

  • Algebra II Readiness

    Weeks 1–6
    Incoming fall grade 5+

    Intended for those going into Algebra 2 in the fall. Topics include but are not limited to basic operations, order of operations, word problems, basic geometry, etc.

  • Pre-Calculus Readiness

    Weeks 1–6
    Incoming fall grade 5+

    This program is intended to prepare students for Pre-Calculus material by going through the Saxon Algebra 2 curriculum. Students will have the option of taking a math placement exam on the final day of the program. Each week will cover 20 lessons.

  • Calculus Readiness

    Weeks 1–6
    Incoming fall grade 5+

    This program is intended to prepare students for Calculus material by going through the Saxon Advanced Mathematics curriculum. Students will have the option of taking a math placement exam on the final day of the program. Each week will cover 20 lessons, with the exception of the final week, during which, students will begin Calculus material.

Science Summer Programs

  • Astronomy

    Week 1
    Incoming fall grade 5+

    Join for an “out of this world” experience! Students will learn the principles of astronomy in both the classroom and during field trips to local sites of interest. Field trips include a visit to the Intrepid and the Hayden Planetarium.

  • Physics Introduction

    Week 2
    Incoming fall grade 6+

    New to BASIS Independent Brooklyn? Want a jumpstart on one of the most interesting subjects? Just curious about physics? Join us for this week-long academic course introducing the concepts and problem-solving strategies for introductory physics. This course is perfect for students entering BASIS Independent Brooklyn in grades 7 or 8 who would like to catch up on some of the physics content covered during the BASIS Independent Schools’ curriculum for grade 6. This will be an intro to their first fall semester of physics.

Writing Summer Program

  • The Writer's Lab

    Week 3
    Incoming fall grade 5+

    Through discussion, demonstration, and hands-on practice, students will improve their writing, grammar, and reading comprehension skills. Students will solidify their understanding of challenging grammar topics through meaningful examples and instruction that targets common errors. Students will have opportunities to practice important reading comprehension skills like inference and analysis through in-class readings and discussions. Engaging writing prompts will give students ample practice with essential skills and improve their confidence as scholarly writers. This workshop will effectively prepare students for middle and high school.

Music Summer Program

  • Private Music Lessons

    Weeks 1 & 2
    Incoming fall grade 5+

    This course offers a 30-minute private music instruction with our Music Department. Contact our team to schedule and confirm lessons.

  • BASIS Independent Music Studio Music Camp

    Week 2
    Incoming fall grade 6+

    Have you ever wanted to learn an instrument? Do you already play an instrument and want to improve your skills? Join your fellow musicians for a fun week of playing, composing, and arranging your favorite music! This course will teach students how to play their chosen instrument, basic note reading, and playing by ear. Open to all instruments.

College Preparation Programs

  • Test Prep

    Test Prep for SAT, ACT, and Subject Tests
    Incoming fall grade 9+
