Applying to BASIS Independent Brooklyn

Thank you for your interest in learning more about the process for admission to BASIS Independent Brooklyn. Our process is selective and multi-step, ensuring we spend time getting to know our applicants, their families, and vice-versa.

We are currently accepting applications for the 2018–19 school year for PreK1 through grade 10 on a rolling basis (Rolling Admissions). Apply now for fall 2018.

2018–19 Application

The application for the 2018–19 school year is now available. Register for our interest list to receive updates from our admissions team or apply now.

Admissions steps and requirements vary by grade. Please read below for details and be sure to note our different admissions cycles and corresponding deadlines.

Grade 9 Applicants: the math entry level for grade 9 is Pre-Calculus. For those that are not at this math level, we offer an Algebra 2 class for credit over the summer. Please contact the admissions team to learn more. 


The Rolling Admissions Cycle

Application Submission Deadline 
Applications for all grades are open until the grade has closed. Once a grade has closed, submitted applications that are eligible for acceptance will automatically go onto our waiting pool.
Application Completion Deadline There is no deadline by which you must complete your application (please see application checklists by grade below), but space is limited.
Notification Date Within 10 business days of receiving your completed application, starting in mid-March.
Commitment Date Within 15 business days of being offered a seat.

Admissions Steps and Requirements

    Attend an Informational Event (Optional)

    Though not required, we recommend you attend an informational event to learn about our program before applying.

    Optional for Early Learning Program–grade 11.

    Complete and submit an online application along with a $75 application fee.

    Applications are now available. Sign up to be notified.

    Required for Early Learning Program–grade 11.

    Provide teacher evaluation forms to your child's current teacher(s).

    We require that materials are sent directly from your child's current school to our Admissions office.

    Required for grades 111.

  • 4

    Submit transcript request to your child's current school.

    We require that materials are sent directly from your child's current school to our Admissions office.

    Required for grades 111.

    Register online for your child's group play date (Preschool, Kindergarten and grade 1) or entrance exam (grades 2–11).

    Required for Early Learning Program–grade 11.

  • 6

    Register online for your Family Meeting.

    All applicants and at least one parent and/or legal guardian must attend a 30-minute meeting where we will interview your child and answer any questions you may have.

    Required for Early Learning Program–grade 11.
