An Introduction to Women In American Films
Hello! My name is Eva A. and I have an overwhelming passion for films. I have been attending BASIS Independent Brooklyn for four years now and over these years I have come to realize my passion.
My project title is; Dial W for Women: How 20th century films show societal changes in the U.S. I will be interning at a company in New York called Mako Productions Inc. for approximately 20 hours a week for 10 weeks. I am excited to be working with film music editor, Suzana Peric, and to be learning about the film industry of today and to be getting some hands on experience in the film editing field.
In this project I will be watching American films from 1930 to 2000 and analyzing the portrayal of women in those films from each decade. I will also be looking at multiple reviews and articles about the films I watch to see what society through about them. My research will result in a timeline showing the effects of historical events on films and society standards during the time those events occurred.
This project can be seen as a study of history through media. I want to ultimately prove that art is a reflection of society and at the same time tries to change the society standards.

This sounds like a very cool project. I don’t know much about films but I hope I can learn more about it through your project. So excited to see where your research goes.
Your senior project focus is so interesting and I can’t wait to see how you examine films and their portrayal of women. This is such an amazing way to examine society at different time periods. Can’t wait to read more!
