Week 2 (Mar 25-29): Lectures and Connections

Apr 17, 2019

Hello all! I have some big updates regarding my lab and my participation in it this week.

On Tuesday there was a reunion at the lab, where all the high school interns and lead scientists convened on new developments in the lab. I was able to meet a high school volunteer there, Patrick, who introduced me to his code and explained the process behind it. I proposed that I could work with him on it, and now I am helping edit and test it out.

On Wednesday I attended a lecture by Dr. Albert S Jun, where he delved into the history of Fuchs Corneal Dystrophy and cutting edge technology in the field. His connection to Biomedical Engineering was very interesting to me, as he invented many of the tools used in eye surgeries. I learned that he attended and teaches at Johns Hopkins University (the university I am currently enrolled in), and he provided me with connections in the university. In addition to this, he was interested in recruiting me as a volunteer in his lab in the future!

This week proved very successful for me, and I know that I will only excel further while working at this lab.
