Ms. Nguyen

Director of Student Affairs, Early Learning and Primary School

Ms. Nguyen earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from San Francisco State University in Psychology. She also received her Master of Arts in Counselor Education and a Pupil Personnel Services Credential from San Jose State University. She is a licensed New York State and California State School Counselor. Having lived and worked in San Francisco, Honolulu and New York City, she has built a career in dedicating herself to helping K-12 students succeed. She believes in a hands on approach that centers on both community and the personal growth of each student. Julie joined BASIS Independent after a decade of experience in educational institutions and organizations, serving students in a vast variety of roles. In Honolulu, she led the Family Department at the Institute for Human Services, where she implemented educational programs for youth residing at the shelter. In San Francisco, she worked as a behavior coach with elementary students, as a public high-school guidance counselor, and as an academic advisor at the University of San Francisco. In New York City, Julie helped launch the opening of an independent school for grades 6-12 serving students with learning disabilities. The experience gained there as Director of Student Development has been invaluable to her role at BASIS Independent.

Formerly the founding Dean of Students at BASIS Independent Brooklyn, Ms. Nguyen is committed to supporting students, helping them find their voice and reach their fullest potential. She firmly believes that stimulating curiosity is the most essential part of learning. BASIS Independent encourages the creativity of its teachers and ignites this passion within its students. Ms. Nguyen is thrilled to be returning to be a part of the BASIS Independent Brooklyn school community!
