Mr. McCollum holds a Bachelor of Science degree in communications from Kennesaw State University in Atlanta where he was a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and Phi Eta Sigma, the national honor society. He was also honored for his Communication Law research, which focused on national courts and the interpretation of true threats law as it pertains to cell phone communication.
As a Subject Expert Teacher in Physical Education, his goal is to share with students the joy of sports and the importance of building a team-based environment. "I find happiness in motivating BASIS Independent students and teaching them to have enthusiasm and respect in everything they do. I am determined as an educator to assist BASIS Independent students to reach their goals and excel beyond their expectations. I am committed to the overall success and improvement of BASIS Independent students and find great joy in building lasting and meaningful relationships with them," he shares.
"I was attracted to the growth of BASIS Independent within the last year and feel that my values as a teacher are aligned closely with BASIS Independent's core values. I am excited to be a part of this community of dedicated teachers that listen and provide unwavering support for passionate students," says Mr. McCollum.
In his spare time, he enjoys playing competitive soccer, which he has played for more than 26 years. "My other interests include volunteering, cooking, creative writing, languages and other cultures. I spent my formative years living in Germany and traveling around Europe, sparking a lifelong love of travel. I became a published poet at the age of 14," Mr. McCollum says proudly.
