In 2010, Mr. Sperrazza received his Bachelor of Arts in history and political science from SUNY Geneseo, where he was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa liberal arts honors society for his academic excellence. Over two years, while working full time as a teacher at a charter school in Queens, Mr. Sperrazza received his Master of Arts in teaching, from Relay Graduate School of Education.
“My goal as a History Subject Expert Teacher in the primary grades is to guide students to even greater independence as readers, writers, and critical thinkers. The great freedom of the humanities is that there (often) isn’t just one right answer,” he says. “I am interested in students’ thought processes, the evidence that they found that supports their conclusions, and the connections that they make.”
Mr. Sperrazza continues, “Our school is a place where it’s cool to be smart. As a life-long learner who is interested in helping kids find joy in learning, I found my place at BASIS Independent Brooklyn.”
Outside of school, he loves playing the drums, listening to noisy music, and playing board games.
