In 2013, Ms. Taylor graduated from the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in jazz performance. In 2016, she graduated with a Master of Arts degree from Teachers College, Columbia University in music education.
Ms. Taylor joined BASIS Independent Brooklyn last year as a Subject Expert Teacher in our Music faculty. She taught Music to students in grades 1 - 4. As a shy and quiet child, music always challenged her to step out of her comfort zone and into new and exciting experiences. Music encouraged Ms. Taylor to be confident in leading, responsive in collaborating with peers and passionate about performing and composing music. Her goal as a BASIS Independent Brooklyn educator is to create new and exciting learning experiences for her students that will help foster these self-discoveries and growth in her own students.
Ms. Taylor chose BASIS Independent for its strong sense of community and culture. “When speaking to BASIS Independent teachers and staff, you can hear the passion they have for teaching their subject and growth they see in their students,” she says.
When not teaching music or performing, she loves running and challenging her strength by taking Pilates classes. That doesn’t stop her from finding the most delicious food to fuel her passion and love for cooking, but more importantly eating. Recently, Ms. Taylor spent part of her summer in China, where she took Mandarin classes and learned to play the Ocarina!
