Ms. Kalia

Director of the Early Learning Program

Ms. Kalia is the Director of the Early Learning Program at BASIS Independent Brooklyn, bringing more than 15 years of experience in both the British public school system and top-tier independent schools across New York City.

Hailing from the UK, Ms. Kalia was born and raised near Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare. She graduated from Cheltenham & Gloucester College of Higher Education achieving a Bachelor of Education (Honors) and 'Qualified Teacher' status. She taught Nursery through 2nd Grade and was recognized as an 'Outstanding' teacher by independent school inspection boards. Most recently she held numerous leadership and senior management positions at the elementary school level.

Ms. Kalia lives in Brooklyn with her family and loves to spend time exploring the many wonderful experiences the city has to offer. She has become somewhat of an expert on finding family-friendly activities and classes for her children. When Ms. Kalia has time, she also enjoys international travel, yoga, cooking, the great outdoors and skiing.
