Ms. Harris returns to the Languages faculty as a Subject Expert Teacher for Spanish (Grades 7-11). Her goal is to continue to facilitate an appreciation and interest in the beautiful, rich, diverse, and interesting world of the Spanish language and culture for her students. Through the development of their communication skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing they can increase their knowledge of a new language and culture.
Ms. Harris holds a master’s degree in international education and development from the Institute of Education at the University College Bloomsbury London. England. She received her Bachelor of Arts from The University of the West Indies with a double major in Spanish and French. During her undergraduate year, she had the opportunity to take part in Language Exchange programs in the French Speaking Caribbean island of Guadeloupe. Ms. Harris received a post graduate diploma in International Relations from The University of the West Indies as well.
Ms. Harris graduated from The Graduate Teacher Programme for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the teaching of Modern Foreign Languages in the United Kingdom (The University of East London in England, United Kingdom). During her teacher training, she had the rewarding opportunity to take part in teacher exchange programs in The Universidad de Leon and Galicia in Spain. As a Holder of the British Cambridge Examinations CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), she taught extensively internationally with teaching positions in Ceuta (Spain), The Royal Holloway, University of London, Japan, and Thailand.
Ms. Harris chose BASIS Independent because she wanted to join a global community of diligent and dedicated teaching professionals where she could continue to expand her teaching practice and learn from other great teachers in the network of schools. She loved the value extended to the teaching and learning of world languages and the opportunities provided to enhance the teaching of languages. Most of all, the enthusiasm and dedication of the students and staff she met on her first visit to the school propelled her to choose BASIS Independent Brooklyn.
As a lifelong learner of modern languages, Ms. Harris uses her free time to attend language related events such as foreign language films, language exchange groups, and sampling different types of international cuisine.
